a couple of "not Methodists"
People who were not Methodists:
Wright Brothers - Orville and Wilbur Wright, inventors of the airplane, were not Methodists, but have sometimes been mistakenly claimed as such.
James Dobson - conservative author, activist, host of radio show "Focus on the Family" (he is actually a member of the Church of the Nazarene, which is an offshoot of Methodism)
I think the Wright Brothers were Evangelical United Bretheran which merged with the Methodist Church to become the United Methodist Church in 1968.
Boy am I glad to find out that James Dobson is NOT one of us!

Hmmm... out goes the diversity you claimed to treasure in another post I read. Diversity beckons all of us ... conservatives AND liberals ... to open our minds to what others have to say.
I also note that in another post further down you wrote "I do wish that George Bush had stayed an Episcopal." You explain this attitude with his refusal to comply with stated UMC doctrine.
But then, it gets better. I read down to your petition where you are teaching inclusivity. Inclusive of only those who agree with you? Honestly it sounds like you are quite intolerant. You paste in the text from the BOD saying "The United Methodist Church is a part of the church universal, which is one Body in Christ," but your disdain for Southern Baptists practically drips from your writing.
The fact is that the United Methodist Church is quite diverse. There are individuals and congregations that come from many different backgrounds that shape their world view.
I am especially disappointed to see someone under appointment express gratitude that a certain individual doesn't belong to our denomination, and to hope that another individual leaves us for another. That's just plain sad.
