Some days I really feel like the guy on this refrigerator magnet!

I have no doubt that allmost all Christians are quite well meaning and even try to be quite loving. The scarry thing is how many hateful things have been said and done in the name of Christianity.

Then of course we have the people that really believe in "churchianity".

We hear folks talk about "Country Club" churches that operate mostly as social clubs & I know that there are Methodist Churchs that fall into that category.

The social club churchs could fall into the "churchianity" category, but what I am primarily refering to is the folks that don't really understand what they believe or give much thought to scripture or the pastors sermon. The folks that blindly will vote to keep their county dry or condemn others for sins that they themselves don't have just because the pastor told them to. To me the churchianity folks are the ones that are Methodist or Baptist or Lutheran or whatever because that is what their family has always been without ever delving into the faith or really understanding what is unique about their aspect of faith.

I really think that I became a Methodist back in 1980 because the Methodist church taught me to examine my faith.

18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."[c]
20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

Is this the passage you are refering to? I can see where it may be taken as reason being dangerous.
